Ice Tea
When summer rolls around I start thinking about the really important things. When it's hot and the sun is beating down and you want nothing more than to crawl in front of the air conditioner wearing nothing but skin the mind turns to refreshing beverages. I know mine does. One of the best for the summer is ice tea. Or is it iced tea?
I really don't know. I mean it is tea that has ice in it. So I guess you have iced the tea. But then the important part of the beverage is to have ice and tea. So ice tea is correct. Or maybe it should be ice, tea? Ice and tea? Icy tea? I'm pretty sure it is mostly interchangeable.
Of course, I am sure somewhere there are people who will tell you it should be one way or the other. That doesn't really matter to me. I don't care what it is called as long as I have a big glass of it.
Not everyone makes ice tea the same. For something that is relatively simple, if you thing about the basic ingredients, there are many variations. More than I could ever make even if I cared to.
Basic ice tea:
Tea
sugar
water
ice
Not too hard. Then you can add lemon or other fruit. Which I am personally against. I mean a little lemon is OK but leave the fucking berries and shit away from my tea. I got nothing against berries and stuff but I think they have their place. Most of the time that place is not near me.
I don't always make my tea from scratch. I buy the powdered mix. Some of that mix is better than others. I like the 4C stuff. Lipton isn't bad either. They don't taste like real tea exactly but they are good. Sometimes I add real tea to the pitcher to add more flavor. Those usually are the best.
Too be honest sometimes real ice tea isn't all that good. When I said that different people had different recipes that just leads to different ways of people messing up the taste. I've had tee that was too sweet. Too bitter. Too strong. Too weak. And various combinations of those. And if the tea is cheap it can leave a horrendous aftertaste going down which can be just horrid.
The one thing that bothers me is about drinking the powdered teas and even regular tea is the sugar. Lots of sugar. You can use the fake shit but that stuff worries me too. Oh well. I guess its either diabetes from sugar or alzheimers and/or cancer from the fake sweetener.
There is one thing that I have done that could be considered weird. I had some mint tea. I made a cup of that and put it in a pitcher of iced tea. I have seen recipes where they say put mint leaves in it. I never did that but the tea was pretty good. I would do it again but I ain't going out of my way to add mint to the tea.
I don't know why I felt the need to talk about tea today. I am drinking some right now so maybe that is it. Maybe I just felt the need to write about nothing important at all? So it goes. Laterzzz...
